Maintenance & Safety Considerations
Angular & Vertical Lifting:
Tri-Motion Bal-Trol ®
units are designed for vertical lifting, not angular lifting. If the
load is to be moved horizontally, the Bal-Trol®
should be mounted on a sliding rail or an articulating crane, to
allow for the horizontal movement.
Repetitive Cable Rotation:
The cables on the Bal-Trol ®
should not be allowed to twist repetitively. If the application
requires that the load be rotated, then a swivel should be used to
protect the cable from this type of rotation. Tri-Motion offers
optional swivels. Do not spin a suspended load, unless there is a
swivel in place, as the momentum will cause very many rotations of
the cable.
In the case of the Sensi-Touch ®
control, there is a set screw on the lower body of the control that
must be tightened to prevent the shaft from turning within the
control. This will prevent the shaft from rotating and twisting the
cable.
Inspection:
The cable must be routinely inspected, and replaced
upon the first signs of fatigue. Any indication, such as a lumpy
appearance beginning to form underneath the nylon coating of the
cable, or any type of fraying of the wire strands, should be
considered a warning that the cable must be replaced immediately.
Tri-Motion does offer replacement cable kits, which can be installed
in the field. Do so regularly.
Up & Down Speed:
The Sensi-Touch ®
and Speed Handle controls have adjustments to control up and down
speed, and they should be set so that the load accelerates and
decelerates at a reasonable speed. The Balancer controls only have
an adjustment to balance the weight of a certain load, as it does
not accelerate or decelerate the load.
Safety Chain & Drop-Stop®:
We also recommend that our Safety Chain and
Drop-Stop ® Load
Arrestors be used for safety of personnel and product. All units are
equipped with a secondary eyebolt or hole where a Safety Chain
should be attached.
